Studies have show that children who are read to during their pre-school years, are much better prepared for school and perform significantly better at learning to read.  Truth be told, but the developmental difference between children that are read to and children that are not exposed to pre-school reading is almost two years.  This is a huge back-log that can negatively impact reading fluency for many years.

The ability to read and write is a pre-requisite to master future requirements such as school subjects and communication.  It is even more important that children enjoy reading - this according to the Institute of Education in the United Kingdom.  their research has shown that children that read for pleasure, perform much better at school when compared to children that do not read.  Reading children have much bigger vocabularies and perform much better at math.

Parents play a very significant role to change their children into good readers.  Parents are the ones that know their childrens' interests more than any other individual.  Parents are the individuals that can put the reading disciplines into place to guarantee their children the best possible futures.
